AQUATIC NOTE

Aquatic notes are mostly referred as marine notes. These notes add fresh, bright, watery, and/or algae like accents to fragrance blends. Marine notes are often found accenting the top note of a scent and are reminiscent of the smell of sea breezes. The aquatic odor depends on whether a source(ingredients) of taste and odor is a natural one or synthetic. Aquatic odour may be caused by one or more of the many volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are often present in source waters at any given time, although most odour events are caused by a relatively small number of volatiles.

AQUATIC PERFUMERY COMPOUNDS

The odorants identified in aquatic compounds have great structural and sensorial diversity. Comparison of the gas chromatographic-olfactometric and sensory data showed there was close correlation between the respective sensory findings. These compounds are best regarded as cologne and fresh compounds.

Application Suitability

These compounds had opened up opportunities for studying in more detail the pathways of marine odour formation, for optimizing processing strategies in order to positively influence and maintain aquatic smell quality, and for investigating artefact formation that leads to unpleasant or undesired smells in aquatic and marine fragrances.

Please Note: Due to the fact that our fragrances are very concentrated, we suggest that you test our fragrances in finished products before you make any conclusions about our fragrances. Since our fragrances are so strong, we suggest only using 0.5 to max 4% in any finished product. Our testing notes should never take the place of your own personal testing. Always test fragrance in finished (product) applications.

AQUATIC ODOR SCIENCE OF PERFORMANCE

The ingredients of these odor causing compounds are usually produced during active cell metabolism, although in many cases their production is heightened with the loss of cell membrane integrity, with the release of intracellular VOCs(volatile organic compounds) or the up-regulation of enzyme-catalysed VOC production. The biosynthesis, internal storage and release of different compounds by individual cells vary significantly among species and with environmental conditions that regulate growth of aromatic cells, induce stress and/or modify extracellular yield. Thus, recent advances in analytical and molecular methods have provided important insight into this variance, which may eventually allow more proactive control of aquatic aromas.
