POWDERY NOTES
Powdery can be referred as dry fragrances that don’t have dewy, watery, acqueous elements that recall crisp vegetation, any expanse of water or dew drops on petals. They can be mineral-like and they give you dry but fresh aromatic odor as a result. Powder notes are more refined in feel and overall less sweet with a vintage, perfumery trail. The no doubt amusing dichotomy of powder evoking both grandmothers (through the association with the scents they carried on from their youth) and babies are probably fodder for a psychology thesis on how smell perception is the most perverse within the human brain function.
POWDERY PERFUMERY COMPOUNDS
The powdery feel in a fragrance can be made by a few different notes. Some of the most common notes that create a powdery feel are the notes of iris, violet, and musk. The spectrum ranges from floral, fruity fresh nuances to ironed earthy fragrances and metallic nuances right through to ozone, ocean-like and waxy scents.

POWDERY NOTE SCIENCE OF PERFORMANCE
While powdery perfumes are part of the dry genre of fragrances, they have given birth to another category—the gourmands that are extremely popular these days. “Most gourmand fragrances are built around powdery note. But while gourmands can be almost cloyingly sweet, powdery scents are never sweet. The modern varieties may have a bit of dewiness. A good powder perfume is dry, cloudy, dusty and always a bit glamorous. Based on the semantic meaning, fresh and warm are two opposite poles of the same perceptual odor dimension, because fresh is readily associated with cool. Taking into account the alternation of seasons in temperate climates, with cool temperatures in winter and warmer conditions in summer, the ability of human olfaction to perceive scents as fresh vs warm changes drastically. This makes modern powdery odoriferous compounds the most complex one.
